• Lights and reflective materials – These are important because they make sure the cyclist is seen even in bad weather and at night in the dark. If the cyclist is clearly visible then it is a lot less likely that they will be hit and if they have lights they can avoid obstacles. The reflective materials could be anything from a full jacket to a strip across their chest and back.

As well as the right safety equipment the courier should have set skills to complete the job properly some of these skills include;

• Excellent bike riding ability because they may be required to ride on extremely busy city roads very quickly in some cases when a delivery needs to be there as soon as possible.
• They should be able to maintain their bicycle so they won’t have any accidents caused because of their bike being faulty or poorly maintained. This means they should be able to check things like their tyres, brakes and lights making sure they are all working correctly.
• They should have a good knowledge of the area they are working in so they can choose the best route for them to take when delivering the goods.
