There are many types of motorcycle used in the industry of couriers and the people using the vehicles should have a basic knowledge of maintenance on them. Many people may think that maintaining a motorcycle is something only people with a great knowledge on them can do but that is not the case.

There are many checks that you can carry out even if you only have a basic knowledge, some of these checks include;

• Daily checks – There are some checks that couriers should carry out on their motorcycle daily to make sure that it is in good condition. These checks include;
• Tyre pressure – you can either do this manually or there are valve caps that you can buy that show the correct pressure and the actual pressure. It is important that the tyres are at the right pressure because if not they can begin to affect the vehicles handling.
• Speedometer and electrics – this means checking things like the lights, indicators and ignition as well as the speedometer for obvious safety reasons.
• Chain – as couriers will be driving many miles each day on their motorcycle they need to make sure that the chain is lubricated accordingly.
• There are other maintenance checks that should be completed on a regular basis such as checking the oil levels and the brakes. If the oil levels are low they just need to top them up and the brakes can wear down fairly quick so should be checked regularly and replaced if necessary. These checks should be carried out every week or every 200 miles which ever comes first.

There are many different types of bike used by couriers it depends where they work as to what kind they use. For example if they work in a large city with lots of traffic they may be best using a small scooter rather than a large high powered motorcycle. This is because they are easy to manoeuvre around areas that have high levels of traffic and there fore can be fairly fast. If they had to make deliveries over greater distances then they would probably be best using a more powerful motorcycle as it would transport them quicker. The scooter types are the most popular because a majority of motorcycle courier companies would be based in busy cities and be delivering goods over fairly short distances.

There are many types of motorcycle used through out the world by courier companies depending on where they are being used. It is the responsibility of the courier to ensure that the regular maintenance checks are carried out. If the motorcycle is owned by the courier company it is their responsibility to make sure it is fully insured and maintained properly.
